In advance of risk management, identify the assets of all of
the collections (not only the moveable collections) by conducting
a detailed assessment of the interior spaces, elements, and systems
relating them to other collections.
Calculate both the tangible assets (here, the objects) and the
intangible assets that require management.
As part of the assessments, develop a database that allows for
the identification of actual or potential risks (and underlying
causes of existing conditions) posed to each collection, object,
system, element, and space.
Prioritize work based on a system that calculates the value of
asset, risks posed to that asset, and likely frequency and magnitude
of risk, and possible means to eliminate or reduce exposure to
the risk(s), response to risk, and mitigating treatments.
