Federal (Adam) 1780-1820

  • Rectangular mass with articulated floors
  • Free-standing portico
  • Very low-pitched hip or gable roof with parapet and balustrade, brick with crow-stepped parapet
  • Slender chimneys
  • Gable details with semicircular windows, facade with Palladian window
  • Entrance doors with half-length sidelights and elliptical fanlights, leaded glass
  • Splayed lintels (brick jack arches or dressed stone) over 12/12 light windows
  • Classical forms are attenuated, light, ornate and delicate with low relief
