  • Roofs are double-pitched, hipped, or gambrel
  • Truncated hip roofs have balustrade
  • Classical details derived from Federal and Georgian sources
  • Columns, porticos, cornices, fanlights, and Palladian windows are common decorative elements
  • Both form and detail are pronounced - as in mannerist work
  • Symmetrical floor plan
  • Ashlar stone, salted facing bricks, clapboards are popular materials
