Prairie 1900-1920

  • Two or three story with single story wings in several directions; porches, carport at extremities
  • Roofs are low and hipped or double pitched with substantial eaves projection
  • Horizontal emphasis, ribbon windows with wooden casements and stripping which continues the sill line, vertical stripping, corners free of woodwork
  • Stucco plaster employed as surface coating over wood frame or brickwork
  • Piers supporting roofs, porches, verandas have rectangular plan and massive appearance
  • Large room at center
